Shotengai in Japan: Nostalgic, Atmospheric Streets Crammed with Cheap, Delicious Eats

Last May a friend of mine (Audrey) from Australia came to Fukuoka and we had a chance to meet up for dinner. It was great to speak to another Aussie again. She has her own blog which I’d like to introduce here. During her time in Fukuoka she did some research into ‘shotengai’ and ‘yatai’. Yatai of course being a popular street vendor here in Fukuoka. Thank you Stuart! And thank you for helping me get over my fear of motsu nabe (sort of). I loved it at our dinner, but I’m still a bit scared to eat it outside of Hakata!

You’re welcome! I have tried the motsu nabe outside of Hakata too but didn’t like it. It was like chewing on bubblegum. Hakata has the best motsu nabe hehehe. It’s a bit like the yaki niku hormone, some are nice, most are like rubber…..
